Simplified Echocardiographic Strategy for Heart Failure Diagnosis and Management for Mid-Level Clinicians at District Hospital Level
Hi everyone, wanted to let you know about a new publication that came out from our group this month talking about a simplified echocardiographic strategy for settings dominated by non-ischemic heart failure that enables mid-level clinicians such as nurses, clinical officers, and general practitioners to differentiate patients with suspected heart failure into basic clinical pathways and prioritize potential surgical candidates for full evaluation by cardiologists. We have demonstrated that this kind of strategy can be implemented as part of an integrated advanced NCD clinic staffed by nurses supervised by physicians. This strategy was first introduced in the PIH guide to chronic care integration for endemic NCDs (act.pih.org/ncdguide).
We believe that this kind of approach has great potential to increase improve the quality of cardiovascular care particularly for patients living in rural areas and look forward to seeing similar experiences from other countries.
