| Words from Gloria Borges |
I saw this from Gloria Borges, member of the YP community who spoke at the first Youth Rally on NCDs at the UN ahead of the UN meeting on NCDs (see attached)
Her words struck a chord and I wanted to share -- to show our support and solidarity for Gloria -- a young professional diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer a couple of years ago. See more at wunderglo.com
"One day, you're just minding your business, living a normal life, then BAM. Cancer. You've got it. You are part of a new world, a new community, and your life will never be the same. It's filled with mental and physical challenges, tons of new information...about drugs and treatment and side effects, new friends who have cancer too and the utter sadness of watching some of them pass away, struggle and sacrifice. Your friends and family love and support you, but they don't walk your path. YOU walk it. It's your job to walk it. It's your job to feel the pain, to bounce back, and to be prepared for more. From the start, I embraced this huge life change, and I continue to embrace it. And I'm honored to help others as much as I can. And I won't stop until this terrible disease is curable."
