Dana Gelb Safran, ScD on Financial Provider Incentives to Improve Quality of Care

Today we are delighted to welcome Dana Gelb Safran, ScD as a Keynote Speaker for this Breakthrough Opportunities event on Designing Provider Incentives with the Commonwealth Fund.

Dr. Safran is Senior Vice President for Performance Measurement and Improvement at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA). She was among the lead developers of the BCBSMA Alternative Quality Contract (AQC), a provider contract model launched in 2009 with the twin goals of improving quality and outcomes while significantly slowing spending growth.

In this video, Dr. Safran discusses the impact of the Alternative Quality Contract, an innovative program to pay for care while promoting quality and rewarding improved health outcomes, and how these lessons can inform future incentive programs.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts on Dr. Safran’s video below, and encourage you to submit ideas sparked by the topics covered: http://www.ghdonline.org/designing-provider-incentives/submit-idea/

A wonderful reminder that ultimately what we need to meet are the patients' needs and demands. In general we should probably know more about patients' preferences and how they feel and interact with healthcare professionals.
Also a very good point on sharing the data with the research partners. This is such an important practical issue in researchers-practitioners collaborations.
