Zarni Htun

Zarni Htun, born in Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar (Burma), is a medical doctor graduated from the University of Medicine 1 (Yangon). Being committed to become a public health professional, he undertook his career as a field medical doctor as soon as he has finished his medical study in 2005. First, he joined Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an international humanitarian organization reputable worldwide, in Kayah State, one of the least developed states in Myanmar. For almost three years, he served for the victims of conflicts and the internally displaced people by doing clinical consultations and he was the only medical doctor within 20 miles radius in the area where he was assigned. In 2008, just after the Cyclone Nargis had hit Myanmar, he participated in emergency response and relief interventions for the victims. Then, he joined Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI), formerly called Aide Médicale Internationale (AMI), another international humanitarian organization. Zarni Htun has been working in the position of the Medical Coordinator for Myanmar Mission of PU-AMI, leading the Health Department of the mission for almost six years. So far he has led a progressive and pertinent career in the public health field for more than eight years, and gained enormous experience in coordination and management of diverse health care programs (Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, Community Health, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Treatment Programs), in addition to his extensive clinical experience in resource poor settings. His career orientation is towards Global Health Delivery domain specializing in Health System Strengthening (HSS) especially in health care policy, economics and financing.
