AIDS.gov Online Prevention & Service Provider Locator

By Sarah Arnquist | 11 Jan, 2011

AIDS.gov, a U.S.national project to promote information about the president's National HIV/AIDS Strategy, has developed a HIV/AIDS Prevention & Service Provider Locator that allows you to search for testing services, housing providers, health centers and other service providers near your current location.

AIDS.gov has made the location-based search tool available in a widget for others to include in their own websites. It's available here
http://aids.gov/locator/

This is a great example of developing a new tool and increasing its usability. It would be great to see similar services in resource-poor settings to help both potential patients and health system planners.

Yes it is a useful tool for people in developed countries. I think that illiteracy and lack of education in resource poor settings will make it difficult for people to use such a system. I would think that to make it useful in resource poor settings there might be some specific centers with computer program where interested people can go and there would be someone to provide them services when they want to find out where is located the nearest HIV/AIDS Prevention, housing providers and health Centers to them.
