By Donna Barry | 21 Mar, 2011 Last edited by Sophie Beauvais on 18 Apr 2011

Dear GHD NCD members - Please find the draft statement from the March 2011 conference attached to this message. This was drafted by several of the conference organizers and attendees. If you find any glaring omissions or errors in the document, please respond to this GHD discussion or email me directly at .

While we would like to accept all edits to the document, depending on the quantity of responses, we may not be able to accommodate all suggestions. Comments will be accepted for one week - until March 29. After that date we will post a new link and message with the final version through which we will be accepting signatures endorsing the statement.

We hope to use the statement to advocate for inclusion of NCDs in the poorest populations in dialogues and documents leading up to and during the September UN Meetings.

Thank you - Donna Barry

Hi all,

There is one mistake in the statement that I'd like to correct publicly before it is further perpetuated. The statement refers to the amount of official donor assistance (ODA) for NCDs. It says less than 3% of ODA for health goes to NCDs. The denominator is actually all donor assistance for health which is broader than ODA because it includes private donors. The figure of less than 3% comes from work published last year by CGD (Where Have all The Donors Gone?, Nugent and Feigl, 2010, http://www.cgdev.org/content/publications/detail/1424546). We found that 2.3% of donor assistance for health went to NCDs in 2007. Be careful not to call it ODA, which is a narrower measure.

best,
rachel
