Doctoral programs in Public Health Informatics

By Usman Raza Moderator Emeritus | 18 Jul, 2011 Last edited by Usman Raza on 20 Jul 2011

Dear all,

I am searching for doctoral programs Public health & medical informatics /
Health Information Systems (not Bio-informatics). Since I am new to this
field, it is hard to decide which one is good. Requesting experts on the
forum to kindly guide me. Below is a list of programs I made after some
internet search.

Thanks in advance,
Usman

P.S. I previously have a Masters in Health Policy & Management from Harvard
and currently working as faculty in a med school and part time in
development projects in Pakistan.

Usman,
You need to go to the website for this discussion and attach a resource on the website because I think having this spreadsheet online would be a great reource.

I have attached the Excel file as a resource here. Just beware that this is a compilation of select program based on my own understanding of what seemed good. I may have missed some good programs, and would be happy to update this.

Attached resource:

Usman, Here are a few more programs that have both master's and PhD, the ones I know are mostly in the US, and it would be interesting to know if there are others not only in the US and Europe.

Here are the ones I know of
Ohio Health & Sciences University http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/education/schools/school-of-medicine/departments/clini...
University of Utah http://medicine.utah.edu/bmi/
University of Oslo http://ous-research.no/medicalinformatics/

There are also Medical Informatics Training Program sponsored by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) which are listed here
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/ep/GrantTrainInstitute.html
These are more for clinicians who want to get a master's, but most of these universities also have PhD programs.

Thank you very much for informations on Doctoral Programs in Public Health Informatics. It is showing a growing interest and I’m sure it will be much more in demand in the future. I myself might in the near future do a PHD on health informatics so it was very helpful.

A PhD program in Health informatics will be very beneficial especially
to those who are interested in transforming the health IT sector
particulary in Sub-Saharan Africa where the role of IT is becoming
very useful in driving the local health systems forward & reducing the
existing forms of inequalities.
