Canada's Branch for International Surgery at the University of British Columbia is advancing surgical care in international health.
The Branch is:
• Providing online graduate teaching in surgical care in international health
• Engaging with surgical care leaders and champions in Canada and abroad
• Targeting research awards for our residents
• Focusing surgical-faculty efforts on improving the lives of the vulnerable.
The Branch is leveraging the strength of international activity that already exists among the surgical members of UBC faculty. The member faculties are: Surgery, Anesthesia, Opthamology; Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Orthopaedics. Branch members are actively internationally including Uganda, Latin America, Ghana, South-east Asia. The Director, Dr. Robert H Taylor is currently on a short term assignment with ICRC in Pakistan.
The Branch's SURG 510-Surgical Care in International Health is the first of its kind in the world--providing an online course focussing on surgical care in low resource regions. A postgraduate masters program is underway.
