My passion in the practice of medicine has been ‘Global Medicine.’ During the early years of my professional life, I was involved in providing care in respiratory medicine during my visits to my home country of India. This experience grew into establishing International Asthma Services (IAS), a nonprofit 501 c-3 organization registered in Colorado. IAS has been active in several countries: India, Kenya, Mauritius, Myamnar, Philippines, USA, Fiji, and Argentina. The main aims are: 1) improve the care of patients with asthma and COPD around the globe, 2) transfer of technology, 3) train physicians and paramedical personnel, and 4) conduct research and provide free medications to the needy. IAS has evaluated more than 36,000 patients free of charge, and conducted more than 50 CMEs for physicians, nurses, and technicians. Since 2006, IAS, in partnership with Christian Medical College, Vellore TN, India, established the first formal Diploma in Allergy and Asthma training program. This Diploma program has attracted national and international recognition, and has students from all regions of India, as well as neighboring countries. IAS has also partnered with Colorado Health Education and Promotion (CAHEP), Denver, Colorado, in promoting health education and providing medical care guided by the principle of a ‘medical home’ for more than 25 ethnic communities. With the above experience and outlook, it has been a pleasure and challenge to work at CAHEP where global medicine is practiced locally, and I look forward to sharing and learning this exciting part of medicine. I have been fortunate to be the lead editor for the first international ‘Text book of allergy for the clinician’ (CRC press/Taylor & Francis) officially released in Feb 2014. IAS educational outreach has a new partner; this important activity is endorsed by the Center for Global health,University Of Colorado, Anschultz campus, Aurora,Colorado. IAS conducted a 5 days allergy-asthma course in conjunction with the University of Nairobi,Kenya in January 2015.
