I've practiced nurse-midwifery, mostly ambulatory gyn care to underserved women in the U.S. for 32 years. My practice includes preventive care, cancer screening, family planning, pre-conception care, and reproductive health. I have also been on the faculty at Yale University School of Nursing in the midwifery specialty. My work with poor, underserved women extends to my interest in pursuing this work in third world countries. Beyond delivering direct care I'd like to establish maternal-child health clinics in needy areas with the goal of improving access to care, reducing maternal morbidity and mortality rates and working towards the goal of empowering women to obtain better health care for themselves. It is my belief that if women are healthy and strong their families will be healthier.
