Dr Tsehaynesh Messele was, until recently, the CEO of the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM). Dr Messele’s broad career in public health has involved high level leadership in the public sector. Before joining ASLM, she was the Director General of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute formerly called the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute. She also served as National Program Manager for Ethio-Netherlands AIDS Research Project, a big bilateral collaboration project between the Ethiopian and the Netherlands governments. Dr Messele received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Addis Ababa University, her Masters degree in Microbiology from University of Lund, Sweden and her PhD degree in Immunology from the University of Amsterdam. She serves in a number of National and international executive boards. She has received a number of awards including the Ethiopian Public Health Association award for outstanding performance in public health research in Ethiopia; Minister of Health award for outstanding performance on health and nutrition research specifically and health sector leadership in general; and CDC’s Center for global health’s Director award for best partnership.
